Takkana Social Justice Fellowship
Takkana Social Justice Fellowship: Sustainable Agriculture and the Environment through a Jewish Lens – Fellowship Runs December ‘10-December ‘11, Including a Trip to Kayam Farm in Reisterstown, Maryland May 22-29, 2011
The goal of the Takkana Fellowship is to create a dynamic model of a pluralistic Jewish community on campus and to advance social justice awareness and activism among Jewish college students. Through learning sessions and local service projects, students will be inspired to gain social and ecological responsibility that will influence how they lead their lives. In May, the group will travel to Kayam Farm near Baltimore, Maryland for a week long experience. Students will work on the organic farm, increase their understanding of Jewish texts dealing with land and agriculture, and cultivate ideas of how to produce, distribute, and consume food in a Jewish way. Registration opens Oct. 4. Watch this space for information on how to register.
