AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps
Engages young people in direct work on the causes and effects of poverty in the United States. Participants in our service Corps program live out and deepen their commitments to social change and Jewish life through a year of full-time work at anti-poverty organizations in Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and Washington, DC. This work brings important resources to low income communities and equips Corps members to emerge as lifelong agents for social change, whose work for justice is rooted in and nourished by Jewish values. After participants complete this intensive one-year program, AVODAH’s partnership with American Jewish World Service provides a broad platform for long-term leadership in social change and Jewish life. www.avodah.net
Spend a Year Fighting Poverty Work full-time on issues you care about-immigration, hunger, literacy, public health, domestic violence, and more. Learn from veteran organizers, activists, and educators about how to make change in the world and about the Jewish connection to social justice. Live with other young people from all Jewish backgrounds and build a community committed to integrating social change and Jewish values. You’ll receive a modest living stipend plus health insurance and an Americorps Education Award up to $4,725 for repayment of student loans or future education. Jewish Organizing Initiative (JOI) The Jewish Organizing Initiative (JOI) builds a vibrant, pluralistic community of Jewish young adults who learn grassroots community organizing, explore their Jewish identity together, and become leaders in the pursuit of social justice. In addition to providing cutting-edge training in community organizing , the JOI year-long fellowship program is a source of Jewish community, intellectual stimulation, mentorship, and professional networking. Over the last decade, we have built a network of over 100 alum and countless mentors and trainers from the Jewish community and beyond. Now JOI is looking for fellows who have the aptitude and the appetite to become excellent organizers, who are committed to pursuing social justice professionally, and who are looking to build progressive community in a Jewish context. Face to Face/Faith to Faith (NYC) Face to Face/Faith to Faith is an international multi-faith youth leadership program that brings together Jewish, Muslim and Christian teenagers from areas of conflict around the world. It was founded in 2001 by Auburn Theological Seminary in partnership with Seeking Common Ground. Now in its seventh year, Face to Face educates a new generation of young peacemakers through programs of multi-faith education, communication, community action and leadership. Farm and Wilderness Camps (Vermont) The Farm and Wilderness Foundation operates six summer camps for children ages 4-17, a family camp and a school-year Outdoor Education Program. Progressive Jewish Alliance (Los Angeles) The Progressive Jewish Alliance (PJA), a dynamic and growing statewide organization dedicated to engaging Jews in major campaigns for social justice, seeks a Community Organizing and Campaign Coordinator for its Los Angeles office.
