Zeda’s Beat Box With Red Method Live at Cicero’s 6691 Delmar Thursday, June 5th $7.00 6:30PM ALL AGES Local Jewish rock reggae band, Zeda's Beat Box, returns to Cicero’s on Thursday June 5th at 6:30 pm. The bands Jewish roots and mix of 80’s new wave and reggae has proven to have a wide appeal. Zeda’s Beat Box’s last Cicero’s performance drew an eclectic sell-out crowd of both young and old, Jewish and non Jewish. The band was formed in January of 2007 by Dave Simon, the founder of Dave Simon's Rock School. To build the band, Simon recruited four teenagers who participate in Rock School's band program. Hillel's Moishe Houses are being created in order to respond to that need – to serve the needs of Jewish students studying abroad, to connect them with local Jewish students, empower them to engage their peers, and keep them engaged during their time away from campus. This fall, we will open our first two Moishe Houses in Paris and Rome.  The houses will be located near the city's academic centers and will be populated by a combination of Jewish students from North America and local Jewish students, thus serving as a wonderful language and culture immersion opportunity.  The residents will receive a sizable rent subsidy and will be provided with training and resources to engage both local Jewish students and other Jewish students studying abroad in their city. Jewish Funds for Justice in New York offers a full-time, paid Grantmaking Fellowship www.jewishjustice.org Application Deadline: 6/1/2008 The Fellowship is a two-year, full-time position.  JFSJ is offering two committed individuals the opportunity to participate fully as members of the grantmaking team overseeing our internal portfolios and managed projects.  This is a working fellowship with a strong learning component.  Responsibilities will include roughly one-third program coordination, one-third administrative work and one-third learning, reflecting, researching and writing.  The Fellowship will train and develop emerging leaders exploring a career in economic justice and philanthropy who are enthusiastic about working at the intersection of Jewish values, community organizing, leadership and grantmaking.  The fellowship start date is Monday, July 14, 2008, though some flexibility is available. The Israel Government Fellows program (in conjunction with MASA) of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center integrates its participants as interns in various government offices together with an educational program focusing on social, economical and political issues facing Israel. It is a unique partnership between the Begin Center and the Israeli government, endorsed by the Prime Minister and other leading political and academic personalities. The program is for 22-30 year olds looking to spend an extended period in Israel that combines an internship working in a branch of the Israeli government with educational seminars and trips. CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT: EMBARKING ON A NEW "MASA" The Conservative Movement is looking at new options for young adults wanting long-term work/study programs in Israel that are, on the one hand, connected with important contemporary areas of social/political concern and, on the other, infused with the values of Jewish living. Three new programs have been proposed and are being organized in conjunction with the MASA Program, which is the joint endeavor of the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Government of Israel. They are:
A. A Conservative/Masorti Internship option based within the context of one of our Masorti communities which would both identify work opportunities and provide ongoing social, educational and religious support to the interns.
B. A Conservative track at the Arava Institute, located at the Masorti-oriented Kibbutz Ketura, which would combine the institute's academic program in environmental studies with Jewish sources.
C. A new Galilee-based program which would focus on inter-religious/inter-ethnic conflict resolution.

MASA
is a new and innovative partnership between the Government of Israel and the Jewish Agency. As the Gateway to long term programs in Israel , MASA enables thousands of Jewish young adults to spend a semester or a year in Israel in one of over 100 approved programs by providing information, scholarships and more.

On the closing day of the Conference, delegates participate in the pro-Israel community's largest lobbying day, visiting more than 500 congressional offices to make the case for strong U.S.-Israel ties. The subsidized student delegate registration fee is $249. Student hotel accommodations with 4 people to a room are $225 for 3 nights (June 1-4). Jewish Family & Children's Service is celebrating! The Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry has received great news! Thanks to a new grant from the Harvey Kornblum Foundation; the food pantry will extend its hours of operation beginning February 1, 2008 to Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. With our new hours, we need new volunteers! With the additional hours, we will be able to help more people and better serve our existing families. We are seeking volunteers who are available weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry is located at 10950 Schuetz Road . If you have two hours or more to spare in your week, we would certainly appreciate your help! Volunteering is a great way to get involved and help others. NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri invites you to help protect choice by becoming a clinic escort. Clinic escorts are pro-choice volunteers trained to guide women and their companions past anti-choice protestors who congregate outside abortion clinics. These volunteers act as a physical barrier between women and protestors and also provide emotional support to women as they exercise their right to safe, legal abortion. Often women must walk past or through crowds of 40 or more protestors just to reach the clinic doors. Help us send a powerful message to these anti-choice activists that we will stand up to protect the rights of women! Clinic escorts must complete a training session before they are allowed to escort. Wanted: Volunteers! Give back to the community. The Cedars at the JCA, the local Jewish skilled nursing and rehab facility in St. Louis is always looking for smiling volunteers. Volunteers are needed to assist in activities, move residents around in their wheelchairs, visit and entertain. The Cedars at the JCA is proud of our heritage and welcomes all who want to visit our mini community anytime. People interested in making a difference in the lives of Jewish older adults are needed as volunteer drivers to deliver hot kosher dinners to the homebound in the University City area. Volunteers are needed for approximately one hour on various days of the week. We are interesting in speaking with individuals, families or organizations who may wish to “adopt a day” to deliver dinners.
