Jewish groups on campus can be found through Hillel, the Jewish Student Union and Chabad, as well as a few that stand on their own. The variety of groups reflects the nature of our students. Kosher Food on Campus
Hillel provides a home for the Kosher kitchens that supply the Wash U Kosher meal plan. Kosher food is supervised by the Vaad Hoeir of St. Louis and available, prepack at almost all eateries across campus. There is also a hot line in the Center Court every evening. For more info about the Kosher meal plan visit www.diningservices.wustl.edu .

Missing class due to religious holidays
Washington University states that they are not religiously affiliated, and therefore only recognize closings for national holidays. Our experience is that professors are sensitive to the needs of religious students. Most professors will avoid scheduling major tests or projects and may even choose to cancel their own class for religious holidays. Professors are generally very willing to work with students, if the student contacts the professor with their needs in a timely manner (i.e. when students receive the syllabus, not the day before the holiday). Arrangements can generally be made to acquire class notes or reschedule tests when classes need to be missed due to religious observance. St. Louis Hillel feels it is important for students to form their own Jewish identity and to learn how to incorporate their Jewishness in the world around them. We encourage students to make every effort to handle these needs on their own, however, the Hillel Rabbi is available to advocate for students on their behalf if adequate arrangements cannot be made between a student and a professor for religious observance.
